  Deborah franklin    deborah  is an educator, author, motivational speaker, minister, radio host at conversations with deborah and producer of the tea. a native of houston she now lives in washington, dc where she teaches in a dc public school and is an executive director of a non-profit. she likes being on the tea because it allows me to chat with other women and the audience about books on multiple levels.   “I like being on The Tea because it allows me to chat with other women and the audience about books on multiple levels.”

  Nigeria Lockley    Nigeria  is a performance poet, and the recipient of the  2015 Wheatley Award  for First Fiction. She's a native New Yorker who resides with her family in Harlem. Her love for reading has helped her become more empathetic and creative. She enjoys being a part of The Tea because it helps promote reading, encourages dialogue, and dismantles the stereotypical portrayals of black women in the media.   “I enjoy being a part of The Tea because it helps promote reading, encourages dialogue, and dismantles the stereotypical portrayals of black women in the media.”

She decided to audition for The Tea, in part, because of a great experience she had in a book club during graduate school. Dina is well travelled and has visited 41 of the 50 states. She has interviewed fashion legend, Calvin Klein, and was featured in the BBC America commercial promoting the first female doctor on the Dr. Who.   “I love being on The Tea because I love reading and discussing books as I feel that they help us have a “bigger life.”
